Kynan Tait
Director, Solid Waste (Vancouver Island, BC)
What
were some of the difficulties of the STT weekend?
It
would have been nice to have many more rolls of film, but this of course was
not the purpose.
What
were some of the highlights?
That
would have to be Trevor Ribeyre's hillbomb gap.
What
sort of schedule did you keep?
We
kept an adequately productive schedule and usually got going around 9am; a
small feat for a team of skateboarders.
What
was the team’s overall strategy and goals?
Our
goal was to film as much skateboarding as possible on the island in three days.
What
do you foresee concerning the editing process upcoming?
I
don't foresee any problems at all.
Was
it hard to motivate anybody?
No,
everyone was sufficiently motivated on their own, thank god.
How
much did alcohol play a part in your weekend?
Its
effects were purely casual.
Were
there times when you felt that you might not come out of this with a working
product?
I
still haven't gotten the film back from the lab—fingers crossed.
What
do you think is the key to success with this type undertaking?
The
key is organization and pre-planning—neither of which we utilized to any great
degree.
What
kind of locations were you looking for and why?
We
wanted to shoot in everyone's hometowns: Victoria, Qualicum Beach, and Campbell
River.
From
your team’s perspective, what is Shoot to Thrill all about? And, how did
you incorporate that into your idea for what you intend to show?
It’s
about getting lazy skateboarders together for a common goal and purpose, and in
that aspect, Red Bull and Color succeeded.
